Clinical Massage

What is clinical massage?

Clinical massage is similar to sports massage but is geared towards ‘non sports’ people living with pain. It is a very slow, focused deep tissue massage that uses a powerful combination of advanced massage techniques specifically for clients with chronic pain and injury.

Unlike traditional sports massage, clinical massage uses ‘listening touch’ to sink deeply into the body tissues without causing pain. It is a deeply relaxing massage dispelling the myth of ‘no pain no gain’ within massage!

Clinical massage therapy has many benefits and is excellent for relaxation as well as treating soft tissue problems.

Clinical massage incorporates unique combination of sports and remedial massage techniques including

  • Amma Fusion
  • Myofacial Release Therapy
  • Cranio Sacral Therapy
  • Structural Integration
  • Shiatsu
  • Hot Stone Fusion
  • Sports Massage
  • Deep Tissue Massage
  • Trigger point therapy
  • Soft Tissue Release
  • Advanced stretching & strengthening techniques

Clinical massage is excellent for people living with long term pain conditions such as

  • Back Pain
  • Neck and Shoulder Pain
  • Herniated/slipped disc
  • Sciatic Pain
  • Whiplash
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Sports and soft tissue injuries

  • General stiffness/ aches and pains
  • Fascial Restrictions

  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Chronic Pain Syndrome
  • IBS
  • Post surgery

The main aims of clinical massages are to

  • Reduce stress and promote relaxation
  • Ease muscle tension and fascial restrictions
  • Decrease stiffness in joints and soft tissues
  • Reduce or eradicate chronic pain
  • Restore mobility and range of movement
  • Improve strength, balance and co ordination
  • Improve posture to optimise and support ‘normal function

Many factors influence how a person responds to massage and it usually takes between 1-6 weekly treatments to achieve the desired outcome

Every treatment will be tailored to suit the individual and to achieve a specific outcome which may be to reduce chronic pain and/or increase mobility or simply relax.

Initial treatments begin with a comprehensive consultation including postural and orthopaedic assessment to determine individual needs and select the most effective treatment.
